Who runs this site

ukpaycalculator.com is run by a private individual, not a company, an adviser or any part of government. For anything about this notice, or to report an error, email errors@ukpaycalculator.com. If you email, your address and message are kept only for as long as it takes to reply and deal with what you raised, then deleted.

What happens to the figures you type in

Calculations run in your browser. The calculator code uses the salary, pension, holiday, dividend and vehicle figures you enter to work out the result on the page. It does not save these figures or send them to a server. You do not need an account. Your browser may restore form entries when you return to a page.

Visitor counting with Google Analytics

The site uses Google Analytics 4 to count visitors and see which calculators are used, to help identify which pages need attention. This is the only tracking on the site.

It runs only if you accept it. Until you do, Google's script is not loaded and no analytics cookie is set. If you accept, Google Analytics sets two cookies in your browser: _ga, which holds a random identifier so that Google Analytics can tell one visitor from another, and _ga_EYMNLCJS0C, which keeps track of the current visit. Both last up to two years unless you delete them. They do not contain your name, email address or anything you typed into a calculator.

Google Analytics collects an approximate location worked out from your IP address, such as the town or region; the type of device, operating system and browser; screen size; the pages viewed, how you arrived at them and how long you stayed. Google states that it does not log or store the IP address itself. This data is processed by Google as a third party under its own terms. Google's privacy policy is at policies.google.com/privacy, and its explanation of how it uses data from sites that use its services is at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.

The lawful basis for these cookies is your consent, which the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations require for analytics cookies. On your first visit a bar at the foot of the page asks whether you accept or reject them. The two choices are given equal weight, nothing is set until you choose, and rejecting is as easy as accepting. Your answer is kept in your browser's local storage, which is not a cookie and holds nothing but the answer, so you are not asked on every page.

You can withdraw consent at any time. The "Cookie settings" link in the footer of every page clears your answer, stops any further analytics, removes the analytics cookies this site can reach, and shows the bar again so you can choose again. You can also block or delete cookies for this site in your browser settings, use a private browsing window, or install Google's opt-out add-on from tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout, which stops Google Analytics on every site.

Google Analytics keeps what it collects for its default retention period, which this site has not changed. At the time of writing that is two months for detailed visit data; the aggregated figures in reports, such as monthly visitor counts, are kept for longer.

Personal data

The site itself collects no personal data. It has no accounts, no sign-up, no newsletter and no forms that send anything. Nothing about you is sold, rented or shared with anyone. The only data that reaches a third party is the visitor counting described above, and only if you accept it. The only data the site owner ever holds is an email you choose to send.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you can ask what personal data is held about you, ask for it to be corrected or deleted, ask for its use to be restricted, object to it being used, and ask for a copy in a portable form. Because the site holds nothing about you beyond any email you send, the practical answer to most of these is that there is nothing to give back, but ask if you want to be sure, at the address above. For data held by Google Analytics, use the opt-out and cookie controls above, or contact Google.

If you think your data has been handled wrongly and you are not happy with the response, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office, the UK regulator, at ico.org.uk.

Changes to this notice

This notice may change, for example if the site starts using a different analytics tool or stops using one. The date at the top says when it was last updated, and the current version is always at this address.
